T1 and Corning team up for US solar manufacturing

Solar and battery components supplier T1 Energy and speciality glass maker Corning have entered a commercial agreement to produce solar wafers and modules domestically in the US, T1 Energy announced on Friday.

Under the agreement, Corning will supply hyper-pure polysilicon and solar wafers from its Michigan campus starting in H22026. They will be delivered to T1’s G2_Austin solar cell manufacturing facility, which is under development, before being assembled into modules at the company’s operational G1_Dallas site.

The companies stated that the agreement aims to increase the stability and reliability of US-made solar components to meet growing energy demand driven by AI and industrial needs. Through vertical integration

“This landmark supply chain agreement with Corning will help invigorate America with scalable, reliable, low-cost energy. Together, we intend to accelerate America’s ability to manufacture leading-edge solar solutions, support a total of nearly 6,000 American jobs, and promote American energy independence,” said T1 Energy CEO Daniel Barcelo.

“Corning is proud to help meet the growing need for solar products made in the USA,” Corning vice-president AB Ghosh added. “We are accelerating the ramp of our advanced manufacturing capabilities to support a resilient US solar supply chain.”

NYSE-listed T1 Energy designs and manufactures components for solar and battery systems from facilities in Texas and a portfolio of assets in Europe. Corning is a materials science company that manufactures elements for optical communications, display technologies, automotive applications, semiconductors and solar energy production.
